Imagine a colony of ants. Now, these aren’t ordinary ants – they’re blind, navigating the world without sight. They communicate by leaving trails of pheromones, tiny chemical markers that they each read and respond to. In doing so, they create complex, synchronized behaviors from simple, local actions. Though each ant can only sense its immediate surroundings, together they form an intricate, intelligent system. Small actions at the local level combine into meaningful, purposeful behavior on the global scale.
Now imagine replacing these ants with people – and instead of pheromones, we communicate with ideas and conversations, food for thought. This, in essence, could be a model for education: a world where each person learns something and then teaches it forward, contributing to a web of collective knowledge and growth. It’s a powerful “each one, teach one” philosophy, but amplified.
Years ago, when I was deeply immersed in robotics, an idea sparked in my mind. What if we could take this ant model a step further? What if we could replace some of the ants in this system with robots that could seamlessly integrate, learning and contributing as any other ant would? Would the colony be able to tell the difference? Would the system hold?
I soon began to realize: if this idea worked for ants, could it work for us, as humans, too? Imagine a world where some of the people we interact with are actually digital avatars – avatars with superhuman intelligence, designed not only to converse but to teach, mentor, and learn with us in profound ways. Imagine these avatars aren’t just responding but actually contributing valuable insights, guiding our thinking and feeding back into the collective system of knowledge. What would that world look like?
The people who would emerge from this world of collaboration, where human and digital avatars work side by side in mutual learning and growth, I call them the antelligent – individuals honed by this super-efficient, dynamic “each one, teach one” model of education. An antelligent person isn’t just knowledgeable – they’re part of a living system of learning that grows exponentially, each person strengthened by the presence of both human and AI mentors.

To make this vision a reality, it takes much more than agentic AI – we need advanced systems that are nonlinear, adaptive, and highly responsive to the subtleties of human conversation and learning. At Advanced Nonlinear Technologies, or ANT, we’re committed to studying and building these very solutions. Our goal is to create tools and models that not only support but amplify human learning, using AI to bridge the gaps and spin off new ideas along the way.
